Verse of the Day

The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. – Proverbs 22:7

Action Step

Day 8 – Protect the Tithe

Verse of the Day

8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. 10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. 11 I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts.

Malachi 3:8–11 (ESV)

Action Step

Designate the first %10 of your income as a tithe and give it as an offering of obedience to the Lord.

Summary

The tithe is the first %10 of our income. The Bible teaches that the tithe is the beginning of our budget. The Lord blesses the tithe and invites His people to test Him with it. He promises He will bless those who tithe.

Day 6 – Look a Long Way Off

 Verse of the Day

27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:27–33 (ESV)

Action Step

Finish building your first monthly budget.

Summary

In long distance activities like hiking, running, or biking the first mile feels TERRIBLE. But you have to keep two things in mind. 1) You have to make some choices in the beginning in light of the distance. 2) You keep the goal in mind, knowing that if you just keep going, you’re going to get there. Your budget is the tool you need to see your goals a long way off. Use it to make some adjustments that may not feel good now, but will pay off big later.
