Calculate 3 – 6 months of expenses and set a goal for an emergency fund.

Day 19 – Get Rid of It!

Verse of the Day

A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame. Proverbs 10:4-5

Action Step

Evaluate your items and activities that demand regular payments or a lot of upkeep. If you don’t need it, get rid of it and relieve some financial stress.

Summary

There are a lot of things we are paying for regularly that we don’t really need. Wouldn’t it be nice to get rid of that payment or free up some cash? Evaluate the list shared in this video and if you don’t need it, get rid of it!

Make a plan to save your first $1,000.

Summary

Your first $1,000 is the hardest to save. If you’re struggling to pay off your smallest debt AND work towards your first $1,000 which should you work on first?

Day 17 – Set Goals for Savings

Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. – Proverbs 6:6–11 (ESV)

Action Step

Look ahead at some things that it would be NICE to pay cash for rather than borrowing money. Is it a vacation, a gift, a party, a repair? Dream a little and set some goals for savings.

Start to create a strategy for building a savings account.

Would you be ready in an emergency? How about paying cash for an upcoming purchase or vacation rather than putting it on a credit card? If you want to build savings look at one of the world’s smallest creatures. The ants have a strategy that works!

Day 15 – Shouldn’t Worship Be Free?

Day 14 – The Dirty Rotten Sin of Dust and Rust

Sell some stuff you are not using. Create a _______ month rule for getting rid of things you haven’t used or look for and get rid of it!

The Bible has a long list of sins. Have you ever heard of the sin of dust and rust? In this stewardship tip we talk about the things you have in storage that you need to sell. How long should we really hang on to stuff? How about getting rid of some payments for a year when you only need to rent it for a week?

Make a list of your loans from smallest to largest. Beside each loan list your monthly payment.

Summary

Most people want to get rich quick. The truth of the matter is, you probably won’t. And even if you do, it won’t work. The Bible says that wealth gained quickly is wasted quickly. Paying off debt is a long-term plan. But if you are willing to work it, it will work! Get rich slow, increase it little by little and you will crush your goals.
